Ryan is one of the leading oil and gas lawyers in the country, and his prior experience as a landman and operating wells sets him apart from his peers. His practice spans all segments of the oil and gas industry, from drilling and wellsite operations to pipelines, processing, terminals, and refining.
Ryan is a first chair trial attorney, having tried jury and bench cases in state and federal courts across the country and has represented clients on both sides of complex commercial disputes. He has led trial teams and advised clients in matters involving oilfield accidents and catastrophic events; royalty class actions; landowner and title disputes; surface and subsurface damage and contamination claims; pipeline condemnation; easements and leases; intellectual property and trade secret matters; and complex contractual disputes, such as JOAs and joint development agreements, gas and oil purchase agreements, terminal storage agreements.
In addition to his litigation practice, Ryan regularly advises clients on energy-related transactions and regulatory matters. He has represented clients in the purchase and sale of operated and non-operated wells, gathering systems, offshore platforms, and related facilities, as well as in broader asset acquisitions and dispositions. Ryan also advises clients in complex construction and engineering disputes, and has tried many cases for owners, general contracts and subcontractors relating to defects and delays, EPC and design-build projects.
