Eversheds Sutherland advises RWE on sale of stake in Five Estuaries Offshore Wind FarmOctober 13, 2026 Eversheds Sutherland has advised leading renewable energy company RWE on the sale of its 33.33% stake in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm project to EDF power solutions UK and Ireland. The transaction will see EDF assume responsibility for leading the development of the project on behalf of the joint venture partners. Financial terms were not disclosed. Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm was granted Development Consent Order approval by the Secretary of State for Energy Security & Net Zero in December 2025. Located in the southern North Sea, the project is consented to comprise up to 79 wind turbines and, once fully operational, is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately one million UK homes. The mandate further strengthens Eversheds Sutherland's position as a leading adviser on complex transactions across the energy transition sector, including offshore wind, renewables, energy infrastructure and strategic asset disposals. The Eversheds Sutherland team was led by Partner Jason Lovell, Principal Associate Jennie Evans and Associate Bethany Brabner. Jason Lovell, Partner at Eversheds Sutherland, commented: "The UK offshore wind sector continues to attract significant investment as developers look to optimise portfolios and accelerate the delivery of strategically important renewable energy projects. "We were delighted to support RWE on this transaction, which reflects the continued maturity of the offshore wind market and the growing importance of collaborative investment models in supporting the UK's energy transition ambitions. "This transaction demonstrates the strength of our market-leading energy practice and our experience advising clients on complex renewable energy projects throughout their lifecycle, from development and financing through to strategic disposals and acquisitions." RWE has stated that it intends to reinvest the proceeds from the transaction into its existing portfolio of consented offshore wind projects. A spokesperson for RWE said: “The priority of the Five Estuaries project is to progress its transition from development into construction and ultimately operation. We’re delighted that EDF, with its long-standing commitment to delivering UK renewables, is committed to maintaining the pace of the project’s ambitions, and we look forward to seeing it come to fruition in the months and years to come.” Key contacts
