Commission schedules vote on DC tax code overhaul proposal

Eversheds Sutherland Counsel Charles Capouet is quoted in this Bloomberg Tax article about the DC Tax Revision Commission reviving its dormant reform proposal for DC’s tax code, which includes a business activity tax and a new data excise tax.

“We hope that [the] final recommendations comply with federal law, including the U.S. Constitution and Internet Tax Freedom Act, as well as the District’s Home Rule Act,” Charles said. “The Commission should pursue the creation of a D.C. tax regime that is administrable, does not unfairly target certain industries, and encourages growth in the District, while retaining businesses in our struggling downtown.”
