WirtschaftsWoche: Eversheds Sutherland among the top law firms for insurance law – three lawyers particularly recommended

The German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche has recognised Eversheds Sutherland as top legal practice 2020 for insurance law. Fabian Volz, Ralf-Thomas Wittmann and Christian Becker have been listed amongst the top lawyers for insurance law.

Fabian Volz (Munich), head of the insurance law practice, specialises in advising national and international primary insurance companies, reinsurance companies and policy holders. He focuses on the structuring of insurance and distribution contracts, questions of coverage and liability, such as in the context of D&O disputes, as well as international product liability, recall and major damage cases.

Ralf-Thomas Wittmann, who is a Partner in our Dusseldorf office, advises insurers and policy holders with regard to questions on insurance and liability law as well as all questions around the law governing damages. He has comprehensive experience in leading complex procedures under civil law and mass procedures, both on a national and international level. Among other things, Ralf-Thomas Wittmann is a member of the working group on insurance law (ARGE Versicherungsrecht) in the German Lawyers' Association.

Christian Becker, who is a counsel in our Dusseldorf office, is a certified specialist in insurance law and has been advising industrial companies as well as managers with a focus on coverage and liability procedures, in particular with regard to D&O and executive body liability, technical insurances as well as contesting insolvency. He has particular expertise in representing clients in the energy sector in connection with major damage (onshore and offshore). In addition, he advises on questions of risk management and business organisation to avoid liability risks.

For the ranking of the most renowned lawyers, the Handelsblatt Research Institute (HRI) asked more than 1,340 lawyers from over 176 law firms to name their most renowned colleagues for insurance law. An expert jury of representatives from ZF Friedrichshafen, Zurich Group, Foris AG, Omni Bridgeway and C.H.Beck then selected 22 law firms with 33 particularly recommended lawyers for insurance law from this list.

More lawyers of Eversheds Sutherland are included in this year's rankings published by WirtschaftsWoche: Tobias Maier and Axel Zimmermann (both Munich) are recommended for copyright law. Christian Hilpert (Berlin) is again among Germany's most renowned restructuring lawyers and Anne Deike Riewe (Munich) has been listed for insolvency law for the first time. Joos Hellert (Munich) is one of the best lawyers for compliance and David Rieks (Hamburg) is particularly recommended for commercial criminal law. Alexander Niethammer (Munich) again received an award for data protection and Lutz Schreiber (Hamburg) has been listed for IT law. Marco Ferme (Munich) is among the top lawyers for employment and labour law, Martin Bechtold (Munich/Brussels) for antitrust law.
